0.0.6 Alpha: internationalization

Sam Tuke Aug 15 2020 Share

Note: a follow-on release, 0.0.6-1, enables Internationalization in the Docker and binary releases. Please use that instead of 0.0.6.

An easy web interface can now be used to translate Lightmeter Control Center, and two languages, German and Brazilian Portuguese have been added.

Please note this release is still in Alpha. Share your feedback using the link present on every application page.

Internationalization

Weblate has been adopted as the translation platform for Lightmeter applications and components — you can use it at translate.lightmeter.io.

Community-driven translation of Lightmeter is now integrated into the continuous integration process: anybody can add languages and contribute translations, without technical knowledge, and they will be automatically committed to the correct software repository, and included in the following release.

A ‘Translation’ discussion category has also been added to the Lightmeter discussion forum.

Changes

  • New guidelines for translators in TRANSLATION.md
  • New web-based translation interface: translate.lightmeter.io
  • German and Brazilian Portuguese languages added
  • Interface language is currently determined by the language set by the web browser
  • Introduction of browser automation testing using Gauge and Taiko
  • The Docker image now runs with default privileges

The full list of merge requests and commits is on GitLab.

Contributors

This is the first release to include code from community contributors outside of the full-time Lightmeter team — hooray! Thanks to gagliardetto for achieving this milestone for the project, with his MR !99 ‘Fixes and cleanups’.
